The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Imo State chapter, has harped on the need for synergy between private schools owners and the Imo State Government.
NAPPS Chairman in Imo, Mr Theo Mbakwe, said this while addressing newsmen in Owerri as on the just-concluded World Teachers’ Day.
He said that the Day was set aside in 1966 following recommendations concerning the status of teachers by the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
According to him, the theme for the year 2021, “Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery” was chosen by the United Nations in recognition of teachers’ determined and diligent efforts in the crucial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mbakwe said that improved synergy between government and private school owners would consolidate efforts made by private schools toward actualising quality service delivery.
He added that NAPPS had put policies and programmes in place to ensure that quality education was not compromised in private schools.
He called for a routine inspection as well as regular monitoring and supervision of private schools by relevant agencies of government.
According to him, this would improve quality service delivery in private schools and make for a more robust relationship between the government and the private sector.
He said: “quality is our watchword and to this end, we have put policies and programmes in place to ensure delivery of quality education in private schools.”
The chairman called for greater synergy with the government and more proactive measures to ensure that their activities are supervised in the interest of the education sector.
He said: “As teachers, we believe that the society is what will mould the children to become and this is why we are not compromising quality.”
