NAPPS day: Bauchi LGA reiterates commitment to girls’ empowerment

The Bauchi Local Government Area chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) celebrated the 2024 NAPPS Day in partnership with the Bauchi-based NGO, Alwadata Lifeline Initiatives, on Saturday at Bluebird Elementary High School.

This year’s event coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child, themed “Girls’ Vision of the Future.”

The celebration featured various activities, including awareness campaigns focused on the girl child and training sessions on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management for selected Focal Point Teachers from private schools in Bauchi LGA.

Hajia Binta Faruq, the Chairman of NAPPS Bauchi LGA, emphasized the association’s commitment to quality education and the empowerment of girls through education and menstrual hygiene management.

She highlighted that the collaboration with Alwadata Lifeline Initiatives was instrumental in providing essential training for teachers, ensuring a supportive environment for their students.

Dr. Samira Jibri, the National President of NAPPS, urged the government to enhance cooperation with educators and stakeholders by creating a conducive environment for private school owners to thrive.

Mrs. Winifred Robinson Yusuf, Executive Director of Alwadata Lifeline Initiatives, facilitated the training on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management. She encouraged the girls to be vigilant and protect themselves from any form of molestation, even when it appears harmless or playful.

Robinson stressed the significance of menstrual health and hygiene management as integral to a girl’s life, urging them to avoid behaviors that could jeopardize their well-being.

She also addressed reproductive health issues, advising girls to take their sexual health seriously and avoid illicit relationships that could threaten their fertility.

Participants expressed gratitude to NAPPS for the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills, believing that this training would create a more conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning in their schools.
