President Muhammadu Buhari
THE leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately order a thorough investigation into the activities of the military service chiefs over recent killings by soldiers.
The students condemned yet another killing of a civilian, Damilare Adelani in Isheri area of Ogun State by another set of a military detachment.
Public Relations Officer of NANS, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez in a statement on Thursday in Abuja said this was coming less than two weeks when three officers of the Inspector General of Police Intelligent Response Team (IRT) were gruesomely murdered by some soldiers.
Azeez who described the reckless killings as sabotage said NANS received with dismay these reckless killings despite the effort of the police and President Buhari to find a lasting solution to the menace of insecurity currently confronting the country.
He said: “The ungodly act of the Nigerian army has made our trust in the military to deteriorate even in the midst of this hot battle against insurgency in the country.

“The gruesome killing of the three officers of the Inspector General of Police Intelligent Response Team, IRT, is still fresh in our minds, only for us to hear another horrific news of the killing of a young vibrant young man, Damilare Adelani in Isheri area of Ogun State by another set of a military detachment.
“After killing the first person, the soldiers proceeded to the hospital to treat one of them who sustained injury were in anger they stabbed another sick civilian to death.
“To this end, we are calling on the presidency and every other well-meaning Nigerians to closely beam their watch light on the officers of the Nigerian army as we are currently not sure of what they are capable of doing at any point.
“Just as we are lauding the police; Inspector General of Police and CP Bashir Manana of Ogun state for the tremendous efforts being done by the duo amongst other police chiefs in the country in ensuring peace in Nigeria, we are also calling on the Presidency to expedite action in appointing the National Security Adviser (NSA) who will give more attention to the military’s excesses and as well as rejig the military security chiefs.
“We also call on President Buhari to quickly embark on an investigation of sitting security chiefs in the country so as to end security sabotage,” the statement said.
The student body urges discrete investigation into all of these killings and that a well-deserved discipline should accordingly be meted out to culpable military officers.
