The factional leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah has agreed to work with the NANS President, Comrade Oladoja in repositioning the Association and fighting for the welfare of Nigerian students.
Speaking at a joint news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Isah who endorsed Comrade Olusola Oladoja as the authentic President of NANS, expressed willingness to join forces with him to chart a new path for the progress of the Association.
He said there was no need to divide NANS with protracted leadership crisis, while the interest and welfare of students that should protected suffer for it.
“Comrade Olusola Oladoja and I met and we have agreed that NANS should become one. He is the authentic NANS President. No more division in NANS, we are now one,” he stated.
Olusola Ladoja on his part noted that after a crucial meeting with Abubakar Isah “who has been parading himself as factional NANS President has agreed to collapse his structure into my own for us to work together in taking the Association to the next level”.
He said it was a remarkable day, noting that during his campaign one of things he promised to do was unification of NANS that was hitherto factionalised.
Oladoja said he had earlier noted that the crisis was an internal issue and that it was a good thing that everybody now has agreed to work together in the interest of Nigerian students.
“We disagree to agree. NANS leadership under me will be united to seriously advocate, especially for the interest, yearning, and aspirations of Nigerian students.
“Well now have a formidable force in the country. We don’t have divided house any longer. We are together, we are united and we will fight for the rights and privileges of the Nigerian students.
“I promised during my campaign that when I come in I will unite NANS. There were factions before. After my emergence as NANS President during the convention, I, unfortunately, started seeing press releases from my good friend Atiku Abubakar Isah parading himself as NANS President.
“I put a call to him and we were supposed to meet during the Sallah but for other engagements, the meeting did not hold. By the special grace of God, we met yesterday and we have resolved all the differences. He has agreed that he will work with me to reposition NANS and fight for the welfare of Nigerian students.
“I can tell you that NANS can now speak with one voice. Nigerian students have been subjected to all manner of difficult situations that the Association cannot afford to look away. So, no more faction in NANS,” Oladoja stated.
