NANS slams Bauchi gov’s son for criticising Seyi Tinubu’s philanthropy

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned recent criticism of Shamsudeen Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, over his remarks on President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, regarding the distribution of food items during his tour of northern states.

This was contained in a statement signed by NANS Senate President, Usman Adamu Nagwaz, on Tuesday.

In the statement, NANS urged Seyi Tinubu not to allow the bitter wailings of naysayers to deter him from his path of service.

“In the course of our routine engagements, we stumbled upon a rather ludicrous statement credited to Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed, the son of the Governor of Bauchi State.

“It becomes imperative, therefore, to set the record straight and ensure that the unsuspecting public is not misled by such a brazen attempt at misdirection and blame-shifting.

“It is both amusing and infuriating to witness a man who basks in the privileges of his father’s gubernatorial office turn around to pontificate on youth empowerment, all while his own lineage has spectacularly failed in that very regard.

“He should be utterly mortified by his own audacity in seeking to deflect responsibility from the very administration in which his father is at the helm.

“One must ask, with all sincerity, how many youths has his father empowered since assuming office? How many sustainable economic programs has his father’s administration initiated?

“What tangible infrastructural advancements in ICT, business incubation, or employment generation can be attributed to the Bala Mohammed-led government?

“If none, then the younger Bala’s sudden grandstanding on youth empowerment is nothing more than an embarrassing exercise in hypocrisy.

“To demand that Seyi Tinubu—a private citizen with no executive powers—should miraculously solve the unemployment crisis of a state with a fully constituted government is to engage in a theatrical display of abdication of duty.

“This attempt to shift the onus from the Bauchi State Government to an individual outside the corridors of power reeks of either willful ignorance or calculated mischief.

“It is imperative to state unequivocally that Seyi Tinubu’s generosity and benevolence should be commended, not chastised. His altruism, evidenced in numerous philanthropic gestures across the nation, is a testament to his genuine concern for the downtrodden.

“Unlike those who occupy public office yet remain indifferent to the plight of the people, he has consistently taken deliberate steps to provide succor where it is needed.

“Therefore, his decision to extend a helping hand should not invite criticism but rather commendation.

“Seyi Tinubu must, therefore, not allow the bitter wailings of naysayers to deter him from his path of service. History is kind to men who, despite unwarranted vilification, remain steadfast in their pursuit of the greater good. If those in government had done their duty, we would not be here debating the moral imperative of empowerment.

“Let it be known: the burden of leadership is not to be offloaded onto private individuals, and those who have failed their people should first introspect before seeking to pontificate,” the statement reads.
