NANS opposes N1200 fuel price hike

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest zone has opposed any proposal by stakeholders in the petroleum sector that will see a new petrol pump price of ₦1,200.

NANS Southwest, in a statement signed by Coordinator, Mr Alao John, premised its stance that such price hike would exacerbate the hardship presently faced by citizens.

Rather than fixing the petrol price at N1,200, the student body tasked the government to explore alternative solutions that address economic challenges without imposing undue burdens on the people. This, NANS, noted could include implementing measures to enhance efficiency in the petroleum sector, reduce corruption and promote fiscal responsibility.

Noting that Nigeria was grappling with economic challenges, NANS held that any move that might further burden its citizens would be met with resistance.

They, particularly, called on President Bola Tinubu to explore alternative strategies that would alleviate economic strains without inflicting more hardship on the populace.

The association underscored the importance of preserving the economic well-being of the citizens, urging the government to consider the broader implications of its policies on the populace before embarking on them.

The body held that its opposition was not only about protecting the students but also about championing the rights and well-being of all Nigerians.
