NANS elections: Committee clears 15 for presidential race

No fewer than 15 aspirants from different tertiary institutions vying for the position of President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have been cleared to continue in the race to the upcoming national convention of the Association slated for February 23rd-27th in Abuja.

According to the report by the Independent Convention Planning Committee (ICPC) of NANS, over 22 aspirants applied for the NANS Presidency but only 15 were cleared based on the well-known set criteria including studentship.

The official report of the screening was signed and released by Prince Koyoyo, Chairman (NANS ICPC 2025) and Comrade Adio Friday, Secretary, (NANS ICPC) and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the statement, after a thorough vetting process, 15 aspirants have been cleared to contest in the forthcoming elections including Ansaku Shedrack from the University of Abuja, Atiku Abubakar Isa from Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, Righteous Aondowas from NSUK Keffi, Maiyaki Isaq Mohammed from the Federal University of Technology Minna, Benjamin Daoupam from Plateau State Polytechnic, Agada Noah from Federal University lokoja, Yusuf Umar From Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Gambo Abubakar Mohammed from IBB University Lapai, Godia T Adam from NSUK Keffi, Eve Dominic from BSU Makurdi, Olushola Oladoja from University of Jos, Salahudeen Sulieman From the University of Abuja, Musa Mosses Atah NSUK Keffi, Jeremaih Friday BSU Makurdi and Mamud Abubakar from KWASU Malete.

Meanwhile, Prince Maiphen (52 years old) from the University of Jos, whose Matriculation number reads PGLAW/UJ/00190/10, confirmed to have been admitted into the University in year 2010/2011 academic session and is expected to have graduated in the 2012/2013, Abbah Owocho from BSU Makurdi and 4 other aspirants have been disqualified for failing to meet the genuine studentship criteria.

“The screening exercise, conducted in line with NANS constitutional provisions, aimed to ensure that only bonafide students participate in the election, upholding the integrity of the association,” the statement added.
