The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the alleged murder of a 28-year-old Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, Adedamola Ogunbode.
The student body has called on the Federal Government to order a thorough investigation into the alleged killing of Ogunbode by a prophet in Ojo, Lagos State, for ritual purposes.
National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Samson Ajasa Adeyemi, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, demanded a comprehensive investigation into the allegations with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the heinous act to book.
Ogunbode, who obtained his degree from the Political Science Education Department of LASU in 2024 and was running his private business on the LASU campus, was declared missing on 16 January 2025.
There were reports that he was killed by a prophet and his mutilated body was later discovered buried within the compound of a well-known church in the area.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that he was declared missing but disclaimed reports of the alleged ritual killing of the 28-year-old Lagos State University graduate.
However, the NANS leadership in a statement through the National Public Relations Officer of the Association, Comrade Adeyemi, insisted on a comprehensive investigation into the alleged murder of the LASU graduate.
He described the act as reprehensible and called on the Inspector General of Police and relevant authorities to ensure that justice is done and Ogunbode’s killers are arrested and prosecuted according to the law of the land.
He said: “Reports we are getting is that Ogunbode was allegedly killed in cold blood by a so-called prophet in Ojo, Lagos State. NANS condemns this reprehensible act, especially when the incident was said to have happened in a place of worship.
“We call on the Federal Government to order a comprehensive investigation into this gruesome murder of the innocent, promising young Nigerian. We are not oblivious of the fact that this reflects the level of security situation in the country, and we demand that security is strengthened around students and campuses across the nation,” he stated.
He commiserated with the family, friends, and colleagues of Adedamola Ogunbode, saying NANS stands in solidarity with the University and LASU student body over the unfortunate incident.
