NAICOM seeks CIIN’s support for insurance growth

THE Commissioner for Insurance (CFI), Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, has called on the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) to collaborate with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to grow the insurance sector.

Omosehin, who led a delegation of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), on a courtesy to the Institute Secretariat, stated that the essence of the visit was to seek collaborative support from the Institute for his administration.

“I don’t want to assume the needs of the Institute, despite being a former Council Member, it is pertinent that I come to the Secretariat, meet with the Council and the Industry elders to hear their opinions about moving the Insurance Industry forward under my watch as Commissioner,” he said.

The Commissioner for Insurance added that his administration would fashion its goals and mission towards the eight-point agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Omosehin stated that the Institute must be reckoned with being the education arm of the Industry.

The CFI was accompanied by Dr. Usman Jimada Jankara, Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Technical; Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon, Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Finance and Administration; Ajibola Bankole, Deputy Director and Head of Lagos Office, amongst others.

In his welcome address, the CIIN President/Chairman of Council, Edwin Igbiti, commended the CFI for deeming it fit to pay a courtesy visit to the Institute.

Igbiti lauded his tenacity in driving the insurance industry forward, noting that his commitment and dedication earned him this enviable recognition.

He said: “Today’s visit provides us with a valuable opportunity to engage in open dialogue, share insights, and discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

“It is through such collaborative exchanges that we can better understand regulatory expectations, align our goals, and work together to enhance the effectiveness and resilience of our insurance market.

“At the Institute, we are committed to fostering excellence within our field through continuous professional development, rigorous education programmes, and a steadfast commitment to ethical standards; we equip our members to meet the evolving demands of the market and the expectations of our regulators. We understand that the strength of our industry lies in the competence and integrity of its professionals.”

The President was joined by Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, Deputy President; past Presidents, Dr. Fatai Lawal; Eddie Efekoha, Sir Chief Muftau Oyegunle, CIIN treasurer, Akinjide Orimolade, CIIN Registrar, Mrs. Abimbola Tiamiyu, Rector, College of Insurance and Financial Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Chizoba Ehiogwu, and the Institute Management Staff members.
