NAHCON appoints Alidu Shutti as acting Secretary

Following the voluntary resignation of its secretary, Dr. Abdullahi Kontagora, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman, has appointed Alidu Shutti as the Acting Secretary of the Hajj Commission, effective immediately.

Dr. Kontagora resigned from his position on December 6.

A press release signed by NAHCON’s Assistant Director of the Information and Publications Division, Fatima Sanda Usara, and made available to Tribune Online on Wednessday, announced the new appointment.

Prior to this role, Shutti served as the Director of Inspectorate and Compliance at NAHCON since 2023.

According to Usara, Shutti will hold the position in an acting capacity until a permanent Secretary is appointed to the Commission. She noted that Shutti is a seasoned Hajj and Umrah administrator and a dedicated member of the NAHCON staff.

He has served the Commission in various capacities since 2007, working his way up from the lower levels of the civil service to the position of Director.

“He has served as Head, Tour Operators Division; Assistant Director, Licensing Division; Deputy Director, States and Zones; Deputy Coordinator-Makkah Office (2022 and 2023) and counting.

“Alhaji Shutti bagged academic qualifications, including Masters in Public Administration (MPA), Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies and a Diploma in
Journalism as well.

“He gathered additional knowledge on Hajj from attending related local and international seminars in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia among others.

“Having displayed a deep understanding of Hajj operations, Alhaji Shutti is perceived as possessing the requisite expertise to run the office of Acting Secretary that will lead to a seamless and successful Hajj operation,” Usara stated.
