The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized three petrol tankers transporting vegetable oil in Lagos State.
The agency made this announcement in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, highlighting that the tankers were intercepted in the Apapa area of the state.
In a video shared in one of the posts, a NAFDAC official explained that the seizure was based on credible intelligence.
According to the official, the tankers used for transporting vegetable oil were also being used to carry petroleum products—a serious public health concern.
“A credible source told us that the same tanker or truck that they used to load vegetable oil has been used or is being used for petroleum products,” the official stated.
He emphasised that this posed a significant risk to public health, necessitating immediate intervention by NAFDAC.
The official further explained that NAFDAC responded swiftly to the intelligence, leading to the capture of the tankers while they were being loaded. The trucks have been taken in for further investigation.
“Investigation is ongoing, and a lot of people have told us that it is actually for Wharf 302 Products and Beverages.
“You cannot have these two things in the same vehicle,” the official added.
