NAFDAC seals 50 outlets in Kaduna for unhygienic edible oil sales

Published by

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Nigeria took swift action on April 27, 2024, sealing 50 outlets in Kaduna due to concerns over selling unhygienic edible oils.

The move, as announced on NAFDAC’s X official account, aimed to mitigate potential health hazards linked to contamination.

Mr Josephine Dayilim, the director of the North-West zonal office, underscored the peril of consuming oil processed in unsanitary conditions during a sensitization workshop for dealers.

He emphasized the grave risks of foodborne illnesses such as food poisoning, gastroenteritis, and even cancer resulting from inadequate processing and the use of corrosive equipment.

The crackdown coincided with a comprehensive sensitization workshop for dealers, centering on Registration Procedure and Food Management.

Mrs Dayilim stressed the paramount importance of utilizing food-grade materials and upholding hygienic production environments to ensure consumer safety.
