Air-Vice Marshal Stephen Onuh, Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Bayelsa Mobility Command gave the advice after the command’s Third Quarter 2017 Route March Exercise on Saturday in Yenagoa.
Onuh said the essence of the 10 kilometre route march was to keep troops in shape and combat ready at all times.
He said the exercise was in line with NAF routine activities to ensure a secure and crime-free environment not only in the Niger-Delta region but across the nation.
Onuh averred that the importance of physical fitness to the command cannot be over emphasized, adding that for the Air Force command it is routine to ascertain how combatant they are to discharge their assignment to promote security, maintain law and enforce order.
“A Combat ready personnel ought to be physically fit at all time and that is the basic aim of this route march to ensure officers are fit to discharge assigned duties.
“Right now, our society has a lot of security challenge which is not different from any other society around the world; so, when you prepare yourself, you will be in better shape to tackle the challenges as it would always come.
“Any military personnel, who is not physically fit has no place in the military.
I, therefore, have no doubt that the route march exercise will be of great value to all participants in the fight to secure the country.
“I urge you to believe the saying that, the regular moderate exercise of about 30 minutes for at least three days in a week will boost health status of an individual,” Onuh stated.
