NAF holds route march, honours five fallen heroes

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently held its Fourth Quarter 2024 Route March exercise, a nationwide event designed to enhance physical fitness, mental resilience, and unity among personnel.

According to a statement from Air Commodore Olusola F. Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, this coordinated exercise underscores the operational readiness of personnel across various formations.

In Abuja, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) and Guest of Honour, emphasized the importance of mental and physical preparedness, especially in light of Nigeria’s security challenges.

The CAS reiterated NAF’s commitment to rigorous training in line with his Command Philosophy, focused on “Deliberate Training and Mission-oriented Force Development,” which aims to maintain optimal operational effectiveness.

Air Marshal Abubakar also announced plans to upgrade NAF sporting facilities, including the construction of a state-of-the-art gym at the NAF Special Operations Command and the refurbishment of gyms across all units.

Weekly sports activities are being encouraged to promote fitness, teamwork, and talent development, with upcoming youth competitions aimed at engaging young people on NAF bases.

The event concluded with a solemn moment honoring five NAF personnel who tragically lost their lives in a recent accident en route to the African Military Games in Abuja.

A minute of silence was observed, and the CAS assured that NAF would remember the fallen heroes and support their families. Additionally, the NAF male volleyball team was celebrated for their promotion to the Premier League after topping the National Division 1 Volleyball League.
