NAF commissioned gymnasium in Bayelsa

THE Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Bayelsa Mobility command has opened a Gymnasium centre for adequate enhancement of personnel’s physical and mental fitness.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who commissioned the centre on Friday in Yenagoa said the centre was designed to enhance officer’s mental alertness for service delivery.

Abubaker, Represented by Air Vice Marshal Stephen Onuh, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Bayelsa Mobility Command said the centre was also to uplift the command and enhance its productive capacity.

He explained that the centre was one of the key drives of the NAS for “human capacity development.”

It reports that the Fitness Centre named after the Chief of Air Staff, was provided with modern equipment including rolling machine, spinning bike, elliptic machine, upright bike, trend mile, multi-purpose station machine among others.

“I have no doubt that the facility will go a long way to motivate officers to achieve the desired level of preparedness to meet the operational commitments of the NAS over-changing security environment.

“Physical fitness is also a key determinant of the overall well-being of the individual both to the military and civilians; constant exercise can increase the average life expectancy of individuals.

“We, therefore, hope that the fitness centre will translate into noticeable improvement in the personnel overall physical fitness, security consciousness and loyalty to the nation,” he said.

Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi, Commander, Military Joint Task Force (JTF), code named “Operation Delta Safe” in Bayelsa commended the Airforce for putting the facility.

Apochi, one of the Special Guest of Honours noted that the importance of exercise to military operations could over-emphasised and urged personnel to make good use of the facility.

“This facility is good for military operations; it will the personnel’s performance in the course of duty, not only in Bayelsa but Niger Delta and Nigeria at large

“We must take physical exercise as part of the military routine,” Apochi said.
