N73,000 new minimum wage to be implemented November — Aiyedatiwa

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State announced on Friday that a new minimum wage of ₦73,000 for civil servants will come into effect starting November.

This pledge was made during a fitness walk in Akure, held as part of the 2024 Public Service Week celebration.

Following the walk through Akure, civil servants converged at the Government House in Alagbaka, where the governor warmly received them.

He emphasised his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, Aiyedatiwa assured the crowd that his support for civil servants is not politically motivated but is rooted in genuine concern for their well-being.

“Anything we have done for civil servants has never been politically driven,” Aiyedatiwa stated. “If workers are not happy, they won’t be encouraged. That is why we have always prioritized their welfare.”

Highlighting the importance of employee motivation, Aiyedatiwa described it as essential for productivity and pledged to build on his achievements if re-elected, vowing to “break his own record” by delivering even more for state workers.

The Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips, expressed gratitude to the governor for fostering a supportive environment for civil servants, noting his dedication to prompt salary payments, regular promotions, and consistent pension disbursements.

He added that civil servants at the event were there to express their appreciation, not for political reasons.

State Trade Union Congress Chairman, Mr. Clement Fatuase, echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s ongoing support for the public workforce. “After the Nov. 16 governorship election, civil servants will proudly come forward on Nov. 17 to celebrate his victory,” Fatuase remarked, emphasizing the strong bond and loyalty between the governor and the public workforce.
