On 31 July 2016 never did Makinde Nurudeen know what was ahead of him. Trained as a bricklayer, 45-year-old Makinde’s while commuting on the briskly Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Makinde was involved in an accident involving the car he boarded and a heavily-loaded truck.

“I couldn’t remember anything but the first time I opened my eyes to consciousness, I discovered I was lying as a patient in the University College Hospital, (UCH) in Ibadan,” he recalled.

“I was later told that I was run over by a truck at the Olorunsogo Area of Ibadan on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.  Sympathisers subsequently told me that I have my stars to thank, first that God saved my life and second that people did not take me for dead but rallied round me and carried me to the UCH. Otherwise, I should have been presumed dead the way I was run over. My boy who was with me on the trip,  Abdulrasheed aged 15, subsequently died,’’ the father of six said tearfully.

Doctors at the UCH rallied round him and on 7 September 2016 and subsequently referred him to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi Lagos for further treatment.

‘’At Igbobi, I was operated upon on September 14 2016, and subsequently observed and eventually discharged on October 11 2016.

However, Makinde’s ordeal persists as he has been unable to use his legs as he remains paralytic.

‘’I cannot sit up or walk. The only painless thing I can do is to lie flat on my back, I am in pains day and night and I have not been able to fend for myself or the family’’.

Pains unabated, Makinde returned to his surgeons at Igbobi on Friday 20 February, 2017 who x-rayed him and placed him on pain-killers.

Makinde’s enquiries indicate that he still has the bright hopes of walking again and get back to his work and earn his daily bread but he needs the sum of N5.7m for treatment outside the shores of Nigeria.

“I have discovered two hospitals in China which handle cases such as mine: Beijing Puhua International Hospital and Orthopaedics Shanghai East International Medical Centre. Please well –meaning Nigerians kindly help me,” he begged. Financial help can be directed to MAKINDE NURUDEEN; First Bank; Account number 3027587499; Phone no-08056284791
