The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has alerted the public to a breach of its official website, urging caution against relying on any information posted until the issue is resolved.
In a statement shared on its verified X account late Wednesday, the agency confirmed it is working to restore its website and advised users to disregard any reports currently circulating from the platform.
The statement reads, “This is to inform the public that the NBS Website has been hacked and we are working to recover it. Please disregard any message or report posted until the website is fully restored.
Thank you.”

The warning follows the release of startling figures from the bureau’s latest Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey (CESPS), published on Tuesday.
The survey revealed that Nigerians paid an alarming N2.23 trillion in ransom to kidnappers between May 2023 and April 2024.
The report further highlighted that households across the country experienced an estimated N51,887,032 crime incidents within the same period.
