My wife ran after me with a knife, almost stabbed me ‘cos of N5,000

A man, Sakiru Kasali, has dragged his wife, Mary Kasali, before Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking for the annulment of their three and a half years wedlock.

According to Sakiru, Mary was troublesome and violent. He added that her behaviour was causing him embarrassment in their compound and neighbourhood.

Mary did not assent to divorce, promising to change her behaviour.

“My lord, my wife is troublesome and loses self control easily.  She is bent on killing me and also swore to kill herself after this.

“She demanded for N5, 000 and I told her I could only afford N3, 000 which she rejected. She insisted I was not leaving home and stood at the door.

“I pushed her aside but she ran into the kitchen, brought out a knife and came after me. She threatened to stab me with the knife.

“I ran out of our compound and into the street, but she pursued me. I ran into a house in the neighbourhood and the door to the house was locked after me.

“She banged on the door and threatened to kill herself if the door was not opened. This family had no choice but to ask that I leave in order that she did not make her threat real.

“I started running again and she ran after me with the knife until I ran out of sight.

“I reported her to her parents and they requested to see her but she refused to honour their request. They, as a result advised that I report her at the police station which I did.

“She was invited by the police and after being interrogated, was asked to write an undertaking that she would never threaten me with dangerous objects again.

“She wrote the undertaking but didn’t change. I stopped sleeping at home and I decided to come to court before she terminates my life, “he stated.

Mary said: “My lord, it’s true I chased him all over our neighbourhood with a knife.

“He is tight-fisted. I saw him with N9,000 and told him I needed N5,000 but he lied that the money was not his. He offered to give me only N3,000 which wasn’t enough for what I needed it for.

“I insisted on having the N5, 000 and he dodged me and ran out of the house. I got angry and ran after him with a knife.

“He reported me to my father and later got me arrested with the police.

“I have begged him and also sent people to him to beg him on my behalf, but he has refused to forgive me and has stopped sleeping with me.”

Giving his judgment, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade stated that the court had no choice but to terminate their relationship since it was filled with violence.

Ruling, Odunade dissolved their marriage and asked the plaintiff t to pay the sum of N3, 000 to the defendant to pack her belongings from his house.
