My wife goes clubbing, gets drunk, messes up our apartment, man tells court

A man, Tunde, has approached Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, praying that it stops the relationship between him and his wife, Nora, on the accounts of irresponsibility and indecent lifestyle.

Tunde, in his divorce suit, stated that Nora lacked the characteristics of a virtuous woman.

He said she constantly abandoned her role in the home and was indifferent to his wellbeing.

The plaintiff added that the defendant always went clubbing and would get drunk.

According to Tunde, Nora turned a deaf ear to his plea to give up her shameful act.

The plaintiff stated that he came to court for divorce because he was fed up with his wife’s immodest behaviour.

Nora did not come to court despite being served court summonses.

Tunde, giving his evidence, said,  “Nora and I contracted our marriage about four years ago, and I paid her dowry.

“I never knew I was trading off my joy and peace by going into wedlock with my wife.

“Nora’s way of living brought me shame and sorrow.

“My wife is far from being a virtuous woman.

“She is irresponsible and constantly abandoned her roles in the home.

“Nora cares less about my wellbeing and shows no interest in our relationship.

“She feels good and on top of the world when she goes clubbing.

“She drinks herself to stupour on regular basis and messes up our apartment when she returns from the club.

“The more I complained, the worse she becames.

“My lord, I have faced enough ridicule as a result of my wife’s shameful behaviour.

“I plead that our union be dissolved so that I could move on with my life.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, giving her judgment, stated that the defendant was given enough opportunity to save her marriage, but that she showed no interest through her constant absence from court.

Akintayo stated that it was obvious and convincing that both cannot live together any longer as husband and.

According to her, both are obviously no longer interested in their wedlock, which has gone sour.

She added that the plaintiff had proved his case and is entitled to the relief sought from the court.

She thus dissolved their union and declared that they ceased to be husband and wife.
