‘My wife almost stabbed me with a knife, broke her rival’s head after she caught her chanting incantations’

A man, Annafi Akeem has told Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Ibadan, Oyo State he has decided to opt out of his wedlock.

Annafi explained that he was tired of the constant fight between him and his wife, Adijat Akeem, which according to him has automatically taken its toll on his health.

He added that his wife is violent and diabolic in nature and will take his life if he lives a minute more under the same roof with her.

Adijat refused to appear in court after being served a court summon twice.

“My lord, I’m fed up with my wife. I have run to court because she’s ready to kill me.

“Our marriage has known no peace since we tied the nuptial knot 25 years ago because my wife is troublesome and is always fighting me.

“She starts the day complaining and raining curses on me.  Our neighbours are now used to her noise; when they hear  her voice they know it’s dawn and  jump out of their beds.

“There were mornings she will wait till I’m fully dressed for work and then pounce on me, tear off my clothes and lock me inside the house insisting I won’t go to work. At such moments, it will take pleas from our neighbours before she opens the door and let me go.

“I reported her to her parents but she refused to change.

“I took another wife since she does not reverence me, but rather than be sober, she got violent.

“My lord, she once fought with her rival, hit and broke her head with a hard object.  She was on admission for weeks and is yet to fully recover.

“Not repentant, she would have stabbed me with a broken bottle during a brawl if I had not taken to my heels.

“Now jealous and feeling insecure because of the attention I give her rival, she became diabolic. She has different kinds of charms, fetish objects and pots of concoctions in her room while my new wife once caught her chanting incantation against her.

“Seeing that our lives are not safe, my new wife and I packed out of the house yesterday and moved into my family house, “he stated.

Having considered the evidence given by the plaintiff and the non appearance of the defendant, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade granted the plaintiff his prayer of divorce and awarded him custody of their four children.

The plaintiff was ordered to give the defendant N3, 000 to pack her belongings from his house.
