Enlarged adenoids in children can be surgically removed as early as one year old and up to seven years old. The decision to remove adenoids is based on the child’s overall health, the severity of symptoms, and the progression of the condition. Generally, surgery is not recommended until the child is at least five years old, as adenoids usually begin to shrink naturally after this age.
However, if a child is experiencing significant health issues due to adenoid hypertrophy, delaying surgery could have long-term negative effects. It is advisable to consult an ENT specialist for a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether surgery is necessary.
