My relationship with D’banj —Toke Makinwa

As tongues continue to wag over the sudden closeness between music star D’Banj and media personality Toke Makinwa, Makinwa has explained the foundation of their bond. In a recent video making rounds on social media, the duo were seen enjoying time with friends, prompting Makinwa to publicly appreciate D’Banj for his generosity.

According to Makinwa, D’Banj made a pledge of ten million Naira during the launch of her book a few years ago. She recalled that by 8 a.m. the following morning, the singer had sent her the full amount. What stood out to her, however, was that D’Banj did not ask for anything in return, which she claims is rare among Nigerian men.

Makinwa went on to explain that in similar situations, other men would have likely asked for favors or invited her out in exchange for such generosity. She pointed out that D’Banj’s gesture was pure and selfless, making him a unique figure in her life.

Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens expressing skepticism. Some accused her of exaggerating the situation, while others praised D’Banj for his kind-heartedness. One commenter called her bluff, stating, “Not all men are the same.”

Despite the varying reactions, Makinwa stood firm in her praise for D’Banj. She noted that her experience with him was unlike anything she had encountered, especially in an industry where transactional relationships are common.

The video has since gone viral, adding fuel to the ongoing conversation about their friendship.
