LEADER of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, says his legacy, as he turned 94 on Sunday, is his consistency in politics and contribution to the building of a virile nation.
Disclosing this during his birthday celebration at his residence in Lagos, the elder statesman, who reiterated his commitment to good governance, disclosed that in the past 94 years, he had never been a victim of any mishap or misfortune. Joined by notable leaders of Afenifere, he said, “I give thanks to God Almighty that in my 94 years on earth, I have never experienced serious illness, major accident, mishap or misfortune.
“I am grateful to God Almighty for my good health and for still keeping me alive to celebrate my 94th birthday anniversary.”
He added that he would not give up in the struggle to ensure good governance and equity in the distribution of the nation’s wealth.
He decried the present situation in the country and restated his call for true federalism, describing it as a panacea for the present political imbroglio in the country.
Members of Afenifere joined Pa Adebanjo to celebrate his birthday as they presented him a big cake and a big birthday card.

Among those in attendance were Dr Ebun Sonaiya, Gboyega Mogaji Adejumo, Mr Segun Sanni, AIG Tunji Alapini (retd), Chief Tunde Onakoya, Chief Supo Shonibare, Dele Farotimi and Mr Tola Mobolurin.
“We celebrate the 94th birthday of our revered leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo. We wish our leader more years in good health of mind and body in the struggle for a fairer and a more stable polity championing justice and equity,” their message read.
Speaking during the 94th birthday thanksgiving service, Venerable Oreoluwa Agbolusi, Vicar of All Saints Anglican Church, Lekki, said it is the Lord who gives life and good health to all men.
“God carries us the way He wants for our own good. We cannot give to God. It is only God who can give grace and mercies to His children,” he said.
Also on Sunday, during the service in his church in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare asked his members to stand up for 15 minutes in honour of Pa Adebanjo to celebrate his birthday.
