Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has dissolved the wedlock between a couple, Sakirat Alaro and Afeez Alaro.
Sakirat who brought a divorce suit against her husband told the court she and her husband were not compatible.
According to her, she has tried all she could to make their marriage work to no avail. She as a result appealed to the court to end their relationship.
The plaintiff also prayed the court to put the only child produced by their union in her care for proper care.
Afeez agreed to divorce but refused that his wife had custody of their child.
“My lord, it’s glaring that my husband and I are not compatible. We were always at each other’s neck throughout the time we were together. He would rain curses on me, fight and beat me to a state of coma.
“He was fond of leaving home without telling me of his whereabouts and could stay away for over a month not caring how our child and I fared.
“When home, he would always raise argument over trivial issues and beat me mercilessly.

“Our neighbours regularly threatened us with the police because we never gave them rest while our family members had mediated in our differences on many occasions without success.
“He later asked me to move out of his house and I left with our kid. Since I left, he never deemed it fit to ask after me and our child. The only time I heard from him was when he came demanding for the custody of our child.
“I notified him of our child’s school fee which was N18, 000 but he sent only N10, 000 through his father.
“My lord, he refused that I pack my property when he threw me out. I pray the court to mandate him to allow me do so.
“I also pray that I be awarded custody of our only child and make him responsible for their upkeep, “she stated.
“My lord, I’m also no more interested in our marriage. My wife and I fought on a regular basis because she was stubborn and made herself the commander of our home. I told her over and over again I would not take it and asked her to leave when I got fed up with her, “Afeez told the court.
“Our marriage knew no joy since we tied the nuptial knot because she is a dictator. She believes her word must be final.
“She is in the habit of going through my phone and would always accuse me of dating every woman whose name was on my phone. She would call, curse and sometimes go to the extent of going to fight these women.
“I sometimes return home late due to the nature of my job and there was never a time she showed concern for being held back at work or made an attempt to check on my whereabouts.
“Rather than make the home welcoming for me after a hard day’s job, she would raise issues which would eventually result in a fight.
“Due to the rift in our relationship, the presence of our neighbours and friends became a constant one in our home. They were always there to help iron out our differences.
“She enrolled our child in school at eight months old after she left my house contrary to our initial plan that he started school at age five. I’ve told her I will no longer pay his fees until he’s five years old.
“My lord, I don’t agree that she has custody of the child because she’s going to put him in her mother’s care which doesn’t go down well with me, ”he concluded.
Giving his judgment after listening to the duo, the court president observed that the love between then had waned.
Ruling, he dissolved their union and granted custody of their child to the plaintiff. The defendant was ordered to give their child the sum of N5, 000 monthly for his upkeep and be responsible for his education and health care.
