A woman, Barakat Ogunremi, has told Oja Oba/ Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State she is no more interested in her eight-year-old marriage to her husband, Olatoye Ogunremi and therefore implored the court to separate them.
Barakat in her suit accused her husband of laziness, theft and battery. The plaintiff beseeched the court if her prayer was answered to award her custody of their two children.
Olatoye did not come to court after he had been served two summons.
Giving her evidence, Barakat told the court: “My lord, my husband is irresponsible. He cares less about my welfare and that of our children and has refused to work.
“Olatoye was working in a school when we got married but he resigned his appointment shortly after we got married and started sleeping at home while his mates are struggling to make ends meet.
“I took up his responsibilities at home since he has abandoned them and thus work round the clock in order that our children do not suffer. I feed and clothe my family and also pay the rent.
“Rather than appreciate me, what Olatoye does is to steal my money. He steals my money and beats me mercilessly any time I point the finger at him.
“My lord, I’ve had enough of my husband’s maltreatment. I pray that you separate us and put our children in my care,” the plaintiff stated.
Ruling, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade dissolved their union and handed over their two children to the plaintiff for proper care.
The defendant was asked to be in charge of their children’s welfare, feeding, education and health care most importantly. Odunade ordered that he give their children N8, 000 every month as feeding allowance.
A copy of the judgment was asked to be served the defendant.
