Since you were signed to Mavin, your career has witnessed a steady rise. Can you tell us how the label has changed your work ethic?
Yes. Since I got signed into Mavin, I have improved in major key areas of my music. I have learnt how to make the best use of my main instrument which is my voice. I have also learnt to be consistent in my delivery which has contributed to my relevance in the music industry.
Do you feel pressured being in a label that has so many unique and trending artistes?
No. I do not feel pressured, rather I feel motivated to do better today than I did yesterday.
Your recent remix with Jason Derulo is currently ruling the airwaves. How does this make you feel?
It feels really amazing to have one of my favorite artistes on my song. I am definitely ticking that off my bucket list.
Should fans look forward to more of such collaborations from you?
Yes, all these and more! The goal is for my music to reach every corner of the world. I will continue to work hard to make this dream come true.
Most of your hits can be filed under love songs. What influences your music?
I make music that cutS across all areas. My mood influences my music. I make music based on how I feel at the time.
What did music mean to you while starting out?
I started my music career officially when I was in the university. It started with me playing instruments since I was a child, then I graduated to singing. Later, I started sneaking into studio sessions. Music has always been everything to me, then and now, it’s that one thing I do best!
The world has accepted and is now focused on Afrobeats. How does this reality affect your music and how do you intend to keep the spotlight?
It’s a big blessing to be part of the Afrobeats movement. One thing I am sure of is that I’ll make sure to keep the flag high!
Should fans expect a video of the remix soon?
Oh yes! The video will be dropping really soon. Yay!
Critics opine that recording artistes over rely on made beats and do not give fans live band experience which encourages better creativity for lasting memories at shows. Do you agree and in your opinion, how can artistes showcase their creativity better at live events?
My opinion is that sometimes the stage or set up may not be conducive enough for a live band performance. I love performing live to my audience but if the stage isn’t set up well and spaced enough for my band to perform with me, then it may be difficult. These are some of the reasons and it is mostly up to the organisers.
As seen in some of the new Nollywood releases, more musicians are joining the cast of some of the biggest movies. If given the opportunity, are you open to exploring acting?
I have always wanted to do acting too, and I have plans to explore the movie industry as well. In time, we will see how that goes.
If you were to play a movie character of your choice, who would it be?
That will be John Wick! Keanu Reeves is one of my favourite actors of all time.
In your opinion, how important is creating a unique identity for a recording/performing artiste?
It is as important as your branding, it’s important that people are able to connect with who is behind the mic. In most cases, it strengthens the artiste’s fan base.
Tell us a bit about your unique fashion sense.
Most times, I like to wear what makes me comfortable
Your typical day?
My typical day is waking up to check the forex charts, cleaning up, checking my to-do list, then carrying out my day by making sure I tick everything I have to do on the list.
Tell us something not many know about Bayanni?
Something many people don’t know about me is that I trade forex. I’m a pro forex trader.
What, in your opinion, are the elements of good music?
In my opinion, the key elements of good music are originality, rhythm and pen game.
If you could change something in the music industry, what would it be?
If I could change something in the music industry, it’ll be for there to be more love and less hate within the industry.
What else is in the works that fans should look forward to?
Definitely it has to be beautiful music, plenty of beautiful music.
