My abductors seized, wore my NYSC kit — Freed corps member narrates ordeal

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Rofiat Lawal, who recently regained her freedom after being kidnapped along the Benin-Ore Expressway on Tuesday, has narrated her ordeal at the hands of her abductors.

Tribune Online reports that Lawal was released on Saturday after her family paid a ransom of N1.1 million to the kidnappers.

Narrating her experience in a viral video on Facebook, she explained that her abductors took everything she had with her, including her NYSC kit.

According to her, one of the kidnappers went as far as putting on the uniform along with the cap.

She added that the kidnappers made them trek through the forest every night during the four days she spent in captivity.

“When we entered the bush, they first searched all our bodies. They collected our phones and money. Those market women were going to buy fish at the market. They collected their money—N700,000, N1.2 million, N600,000—but I had only N15,000, so they took my N15,000 and my phone.

“They even took my khaki—my NYSC clothes. One of them wore the NYSC khaki with my cap.”

She further disclosed that, although she was not tortured as severely as the older women who were kidnapped alongside her, she was slapped on multiple occasions.
