THE Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has called on the government at all levels to take urgent steps to improve the provision of security services in the country.
MUSWEN, the umbrella body for all Muslim organisations in south-western Nigeria, made the call in a statement in which it, on behalf of all Muslims in the South West region, commiserated with the leader of the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti and his family, over the death of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunri, at the hands of bandits on a highway.

The statement, signed by MUSWEN’s Executive Secretary, Professor Dawud Noibi, described sustained improvement in the provision of security as a primary duty which the government owes all Nigerians.
The Muslim organisation commended Chief Fasoranti for his calmness and forbearance in the face of the death of his daughter, Mrs Olakunri, saying his exhibition of patience and restraint had gone a long way to reduce the tension that the development had generated.
“While losing a child in one’s old age is itself a big trial from God, we are particularly disturbed by the circumstances of Mrs Olakunri’s death. The national outcry and condemnation that trailed the sad news of her death at the hands of criminal elements is, therefore, understandable.
“We are, however, touched by Chief Fasoranti’s stoical calmness and uncommon forbearance in the face of this trial from God. This has gone a long way to reduce the tension that the murder of Mrs Olakunri had generated.
“We use this medium to join other Nigerians in condemning in strong terms, the dastardly act. We appeal to security agencies to make sure that those who carried out this crime are apprehended and brought to justice.
“We pray to God to grant Chief Fasoranti and his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May He comfort and strengthen the family and heal the nation,” MUSWEN stated.
