MUSWEN prays for Buhari, Nigeria

THE Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has offered special prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari, his government and Nigeria.

Members of the executive organ of the body represent the Muslim communities/councils of the six states of the South West, the major Muslim organisations domiciled in the region, including Muslim women and youth organisations.

The organ, at its 13th Regular Meeting, held on Sunday, at MUSWEN’s secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State, thanked Allah for responding to the prayers of Nigerians and bringing back the president in improved health.

It expressed the hope that such thanksgiving would attract even more of Allah’s mercies to the president and the nation, “as Allah has assured believers that their gratitude to Him will bring more of His favours”.

The religious leaders expressed faith in the fact that the span of life of a person is not determined by the wishes or claims of detractors but by Allah’s decree. So, they urged the president and the nation to put trust in Allah and ignore the whispers of rumour mongers.

They also thanked Allah for giving the country and the armed forces victory over the Boko Haram menace and beseeched Him to complete the victory not only over the “misguided insurgents” but also over all other forms of threat to the security, unity and progress of the nation, praying that the remaining Chibok girls be brought back safely.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Sakariyau Babalola, President of MUSWEN, who is also Deputy President-General (South) of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

In the same vein, the people of Lafiagi, in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, have said a special prayer for the sound health of the president to be able to implement his policies and programmes, especially as they affect the ongoing anti-graft war.

The people used the occasion to also pray for their late Chief Imam, Alhaji Muhammed Bida Haruna.

Leading the special prayer, which also featured prayers for the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki; Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Senator Shaaba Lafiagi and the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Saadu Kawu Haliru, the Chief Imam of Shonga, Alhaji Jibril Usman, prayed for the stability and unity of the country and the sound health of the leaders.

Alhaji Usman, who also led a fidau for the late Chief Imam of Lafiagi, reminded Muslims of the need to always prepare for death and the Day of Judgement.

Speaking with journalists, the senator representing Kwara North in the Senate, Senator Shaaba Lafiagi, said it was appropriate to pray for the reinvigoration of President Buhari considering his mission to take the nation out of the woods.

The Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, noted that the prayer being said for the president across the country showed that the people were united and eager to overcome the challenges facing the country

The prayer was attended by the Ambassador-designate from Kwara State, Professor Issa Gana; a former Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed; the state chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Manzuma Issa; pioneer Grand Khadi of Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice AbdulKadri Orire (rtd); current Grand Khadi, Justice Ola AbdulKadri, special assistants to the state governor, among other personalities.
