Muslim group donates foods, clothes to widows, underprivileged

Published by

A Muslim group, Sisters of Jannah, has donated food items, clothes and other welfare materials to widows and  the underprivileged in the Wasinmi area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The 50 women who benefitted from the donation were drawn from Asalatu, Alubarika, at Oluwatosin Hajia Zainab Junaid Memorial Mosques in the council area.

The group coordinator for the Abeokuta Zone, Sherifat Aminu, explained that the aim of the donation was to give to humanity, educate and empower people.

Aminu said the group specialised in giving out to the underprivileged as the project was one of many being undertaken by the group every year.

According to her, Sisters of Jannah is an international organisation with presence in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

She said: “We have programmes that speak to our objectives. We do visitations, we go to prisons to see the prisoners, we go to orphanages. We do mop-up programmes where we give used items to the needy. We also go to schools.

“We give to schoolchildren. We also partake in cancer awareness activities in the month of October, and in the month of Ramadan, we join Muslim faithful to give to the needy the little that we can. It is one of such activities that we are doing today in Ewekoro Local Government Area, specifically Wasinmi Community where we have come to meet our Muslim sisters and brothers.”

Speaking about the project, she explained that the first phase of the Ramadan project took place about two weeks ago in Odeda Local Government Area.

One of the beneficiaries of the project, Aishat Oyewole, who had been taking care of her children since her husband’s demise, urged other similar Muslim groups to follow suit in order to assist more people in the society.
