THE Muslim Community of Oyo State, under the spiritual guidance of the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abubakri AbdulGaniy Agbotomokekere, has organised a special prayer over the economic hardship and insecurity in Nigeria.
The special prayer led by the Chief Imam was held at the Eid praying ground, Agodi-Gate, Ibadan, on Monday.
At the prayer, which was attended by Muslim faithful and clerics, selected chapters of the Holy Quran and other Islamic supplications were recited to seek Allah’s intervention in the nation’s security and economic challenges.
Addressing newsmen after the prayer, the Secretary-General of the Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade, said the prayer was offered for Oyo State and Nigeria in general.
Siyanbade said that the prayer was to seek Allah’s divine intervention to get the country out of poor economy and insecurity.
“We are imploring God to guide our leaders right to help them as they strive to make things better for Nigeria.
“We are also urging Nigerians to have patience with the good efforts of President Bola Tinubu, the captain of the ship, and pray that he succeeds,” Siyanbade said.
The secretary-general said that prayer is the only key that can be offered when things are bad.
Also speaking, a former lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, Professor Kamil Oloso, affirmed the efficacy of prayers and citizens’ commitment to seeing Nigeria through.
Emphasising the hardship on many Nigerians, he said the Allah is inclined to answering prayers easily during Ramadan.
“We believe that the prayers offered today have been answered and the country will begin to enjoy peace and harmony, by the grace of God,” Oloso said.
He, however, called on those at the helm to always do the right things, saying everyone would give account of his or her deeds on the Day of Judgment.
“We will continue to appeal to the few corrupt individuals who are at the echelon of the leadership of this country to learn from those responsible ones and I believe this prayer will make them sit up and start to do the right things,” he stated.
The Alfa Agba of Ibadanland, Dr AbddulBari Adetunji, implored Muslims to pray whenever they find themselves in difficult situations.
Adetunji called on Nigerians to shun bad habits and other social vices so that their prayers would be accepted by Allah.
According to him, prayers are quickly accepted when an individual moves away from committing sins and seeks the forgiveness of God.
Those present at the event included the Oyo State coordinator of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Alhaji Daud Afolabi.
