My mum never minded death once I became gov —Ajimobi

OYO State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobo, on Tuesday, acknowledged the prayers and support of his mother, Mrs Dhkirat Ajimobi, towards his becoming governor.

He, therefore, harped on the need for parents to be loved and revered so as to attain success in life.

Ajimobi disclosed these during a prayer session held at the Government House, Ibadan, in remembrance of his mother, Alhaja Dhkirat Ajimobi, who died five years ago at the age of 85.

Ajimobi described the day he was sworn in as governor as the happiest of his mum’s life, who was overjoyed to state that she wouldn’t mind dying the day after.

He also spoke about the vanity of life, urging humans to live responsibly each passing day.

Muslim clerics drew attention to the transient nature of life at the programme, admonishing human beings to question what they would want to be remembered for after death.

In his sermon, Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muyideen Bello, charged humans to lead responsible lives bearing in mind that death could come any moment.

He harped on the role of parents, calling for reverence of parents in life and death.

While lauding the virtues of the late Ajimobi, Bello charged Governor Ajimobi to establish some foundations in honour of his mum.

Speaking, Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiyy Abubakri, also urged the congregation to take note that there is life after death.

Other Muslim clerics, including Chairman, Oyo Muslim Pilgrims Board, Taofeek Akewugbagold; Executive Secretary, Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, Professor Dawud Noibi and Imam Abdul-Mu’meen Ibilade urged everyone to live well to attain paradise and to be remembered for their works.

The roll call of dignitaries included the governor’s wife, Mrs Florence Ajimobi; deputy governor, Mr Moses Adeyemo and wife, Janet; members of the state executive council; Speaker of Assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo and other state lawmakers; Senators Monsurat Sunmonu and Fatai Buhari.

Others are the Olubadan in council; President, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Adeyemi Soladoye; Chairman Oyo All Progressives Congress, Chief Akin Oke; Chairman, African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, Reverend (Mrs) Tola Oyediran; Chief Bode Amoo; Chief Bayo Akande and wife, Onikepo; Justice Nurudeen Adekola (retd) and state Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr Taofeek Oyerinde.
