Mr Macaroni criticises Wike for allegedly disrespecting Nigerians

Nigerian skit maker Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr. Macaroni, has openly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he describes as a clear disregard for Nigerian citizens.

Mr. Macaroni, known for his activism and satirical commentary on social issues, expressed frustration over Wike’s recent interaction with a group of citizens, stating that Nigerian politicians generally lack respect for the people they are meant to serve.

“Nigerian politicians have never been accountable to the people,” Mr. Macaroni said in a social media post. “This lack of accountability is the root of their disrespect. They forget that they are in office to serve, not to rule over the citizens.” He referenced a recent incident where Wike allegedly questioned a group of Nigerians, asking, “Are you stupid? Is it because I came down to talk to you?”

Macaroni was quick to remind the FCT Minister of his role. “You are a civil servant!” he exclaimed.

“What do you mean by ‘is it because I came down to talk to you’? You are talking to the people who pay your salary!” He went on to say that the office Wike holds and any privileges that come with it are the result of serving the public and should not be taken as personal entitlements.

He argued that “arrogance has no place in public office. Nigeria is not a private entity,” he stated firmly. “Your duty is to serve, not to lord over anyone. You are not anybody’s chairman.”

The skit maker, who has gained a large following for his humorous content, also addressed Wike directly in his post. “Dear @GovWike, you are a PUBLIC SERVANT!” he wrote. “Next time you want to address the citizens who pay your salary, do so with utmost humility and respect.”

Mr. Macaroni did not mince words as he continued his criticism. He reminded Wike, “Never go about asking Nigerians if they are stupid… you are not doing anyone a favour by being Minister!”

He found the minister’s tone and attitude unbecoming of someone in his position, further calling attention to the responsibility public officials have toward their constituents.

Many Nigerians have shown support for Mr Macaroni’s stance, with numerous social media users applauding his bravery in speaking up against what they see as the arrogance of political leaders.

“You must think you are talking to your slaves,” Mr. Macaroni wrote, capturing the frustration that many feel toward the disconnect between elected officials and the public.

Ending his post with a call to action, Mr Macaroni urged Nigerians to remind their leaders of their duty. “So next time any Nigerian politician is addressing the people, please remind them that they are speaking to the people they are serving, not their followers,” he said.
