If you are following the likes of singer Tiwa Savage, actresses Mercy Johnson, Tonto Dike, Adaeze Yobo, Caroline Danjuma, Lilian Esoro and Mercy Aigbe on Instagram, you will notice that they constantly refer to themselves as yummy mummies, meaning that they are not allowing their roles as mothers in their careers to diminish the fact that they are young, super stylish and successful. The phrase, yummie mumies, became a term for young and stylish women in their late and early thirties, who, after giving birth, still look as hot as ever and even still give single ladies in their twenties a run for their money.
However, the trend of older women in their 50s and above paying attention to their ensembles by looking very stylish and extremely sophisticated, is now making the yummie mumies look not so yummy anymore. These women called ‘glam-mas’ (a combination of ‘glamour’ and ma — a title accorded to older women out of respect) don’t wear kaftans, baggy trousers or boubou. They wear high-end designer labels and latest fashion trends. They fix Brazilian, Peruvian and Mongolian hair extensions, their make-up are always on fleek and they wear six- inch heels!
Leading the pack of these stylish ‘glam-mas’ are Senator Daisy Danjuma, Mrs Abike Dabiri Erewa, Mrs Betty Irabor, Chief (Mrs) Nkiru Anumudu, Senator stella Oduah, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Mo’ Abudu, Grace Egbagbe and the rest. Check out these glam-mas and see if you can even steal their style choices!
