Mother, Uncle torture boy to death in Ondo

A 14-year-old boy, Mathew Adebayo has been allegedly tortured to death by his mother, Mrs Ajoke Adebayo and his uncle, Mr Idowu Adebayo, for allegedly withdrawing from his mother’s bank account.

Mathew was alleged to have withdrawn the sum of N21,000 from her mother’s bank account without her consent while the duo tortured him to death.

According to an eye witness, who explained that the incident occupied around Oda road in the Akure South Local Government Area of the state, when the mother noticed some withdrawal from her account.

He explained that Mrs Adebayo reported the JSS3 student to his father, who is also a police officer, while the father called his younger brother to discipline Mathew but the young boy was beaten to coma in the process.

He said: The woman (Ajoke) called her husband, informing him about what the son did, while the husband called his younger brother to discipline the boy.

“It was one of Mathew’s  friends in the area that called the attention of the neighbours to the torturing of the boy, but when they opened the door, where he was locked in, he was already unconscious and rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.”

He, however, said men of the state police command were invited to the house and arrested the mother and the deceased uncle.

Speaking on the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph, who confirmed the development said the two suspects had been arrested by the command.

He said investigation had commenced into the matter while the command had invited the father of the deceased for questioning.

He said: “We have arrested the two suspect and very soon, we will arrest the police father who gave the order to beat the boy.

“He is not serving in our command here but he would soon be arrested.”
