A Cassava Plantation
This disclosure was made by the chairman of Mokk Investment, Mr. Kunle Abdul, during a meeting with the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Peju Adebajo, and stakeholders in the cassavabusiness, last Thursday in Abeokuta.
He explained that the company is partnering with Agreenova, a Brazilian firm on agricultural implementation and processing of cassava in the state.
Abdul explained to the audience which had in attendance the representative of the commissioner, Mr. Segun Ipinniwa, who is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, representatives of IFAD, among others,that a 6,000 hectares of land had been cultivated to feed Cassava Integrated Plants.
Meanwhile, Nigeria is the largest producer ofcassava in the world with the production capacity of approximately 45 million tonnes which is almost 19 per cent of the total cassava production in the world.
Cassava, which is raw materials for countless products, has served as food for families especially in the rural areas as the popular garri is produced from cassava, and other products which form the basic daily food of Nigerians.
Abdul however said that the integrated plants of starch, ethanol, and glucose syrup would produced 100 metric tonnes per day.
He hinted that the first phase of cultivation was launched last year August which was about 500 hectares, adding that the firm is preparing to launch 2,000 hectares against 2018.
