Mo-hit stars in nostalgia after Patrick Doyle’s comment

Published by

Arrowheads of the defunct Mo-hit recordas well as its sympathisers were in a state of nostalgia during the week after a footage of the comment by a media personality and Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle surfaced on social media.

Speaking in a panel session of the 5th edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (#NECLive) on the topic, “From Nothing to World Map,” Doyle explained how the creative geniuses of young Nigerians, especially Mo-hit stars and particularly Don Jazzy and Dbanj had elevated the status of Nigerian music, putting it in the world map.

His comment, bearing so much nostalgic feelings, also homed in on the fact that these youngsters accomplished this feat without much education.

“Just by the bootstraps, young Nigerians without any former training in music marketing, without any former training in music retailing, without any former training in artiste management and talent management took Nigerian music from the black waters… before now it was Congolese music that we were used to. You remember Awilo Lomgonba?

“And these boys, people like Don Jazzy and Dbanj, pulled their own boot straps without any former training. Dbanj did not have a former training. He dropped out of Lagos State University. Don Jazzy, to the best of my knowledge, did not attend any university. But they took Nigerian music from the bootstraps and put us well on the world map,” he said.

And he added: “What we need today is that kind of spirit and I can see that same spirit in the thousands of the young people here.”

Mavin Records rainmaker, Michael Collins is popularly known as Don Jazzy, was first to get hold of the Youtube footage of the event which was held late last year.

Clearly in a nostalgic mood, he reached out to fellow industry mate and ex-partner, Oladapo Daniel Oyebajo fondly known as Dbanj of the Mo-hits fame in a show of affection.

In the Instagram post, Don Jazzy wrote, “Wasn’t easy but passion, determination and the grace of God surpassed all. We did something bro @iambangele” (mime of several hands raised up).

The post was attended by thousands of likes and comments about the good old days from other Mohit stars, Mavin proteges like Korede Bello, Dija, Iyanya as well as Dbanj’s.

In his response Dbanj wrote, “My brother @donjazzy Omo indeed it wasn’t easy, but we thank God for grace and that we were chosen. It all just started, let them stay turned”.

After many years of going their separate ways, Mo-hit stars are beginning to find common grounds to rally on. This developments can only excite their fans.
