The President, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun (left), welcoming the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Reverend Yakubu Pam, to a one-day interfaith workshop for media practitioners, in Abuja. With them is the president of the Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Mr Patrick Osu.
MUSLIMS have been urged to continue to live peacefully with their neighbours, especially adherents of other faiths as taught by Prophet Muhammad.
This plea was contained in a statement in Ibadan by the chairman of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Oyo State chapter, Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi, on the occasion of this year’s Maolud Nabiy.
Alhaji Fasasi emphasised that peaceful coexistence is part of Islamic ethics as Prophet Muhammad, as leader in Madinah, did not only live peacefully with others but was just to them, irrespective of tribe or religion.
According to the Oyo MMPN chairman, the message of the Holy Prophet is Islam which means peace, and as such, no adherent of the religion should engage in anything that could threaten the peace and stability of others.
He said that as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2023 general election, politicians should play the game by the rules and eschew conducts that could cause a breach of the public peace.
Alhaji Fasasi called on religious leaders, traditional rulers as well as prominent personalities to preach against electoral violence so that Oyo State would not return to the era of brigandage, thuggery, hooliganism and do or die politics.
He explained that if Nigerian leaders could emulate the virtues of Prophet Muhammad which include honesty, selfless service, love, kindness, equality, fairness and above all, God-consciousness, the country would be in the comity of developed nations.
The Oyo MMPN leader implored leaders in the country to fear a day when they would be called into account by their Creator and invest in righteous deeds at all times.
