The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has welcomed its inaugural group of 30 medical laboratory science graduates from Arthur Jarvis University (AJU) into the profession, urging them to prioritise patient needs and contribute to medical research.
Professor Tosan Erhabor, the Registrar/CEO of MLSCN, emphasized the crucial role that practitioners have in Nigeria’s healthcare system. He noted that the skills of Medical Laboratory Science professionals are key to diagnosing illnesses, tracking treatment results, and promoting medical research in the country.
Speaking during the induction ceremony for the graduates from Arthur Jarvis University, located in Akpabuyo, Cross River State, Erhabor highlighted the importance of their training, stating that these newly qualified professionals have a significant part to play in the healthcare landscape.

He asserted, “Your expertise is vital for diagnosing diseases, monitoring treatment outcomes, and fostering advancements in medical research. Therefore, I urge you to maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics in your work. Your actions will directly affect people’s lives.”
Erhabor encouraged the graduates to remain inquisitive, continue learning, and strive for excellence in their careers. He also acknowledged the evolving nature of the Medical Laboratory Science field, stressing the importance of staying informed about new developments.
He commended Arthur Jarvis University for its initiative in establishing the Medical Laboratory Science department, calling it a significant achievement. “As regulators, our goal is to ensure that medical laboratory science education and practice in Nigeria adhere to international standards. By following our guidelines, you will ensure that your graduates are well-prepared and that your institution is recognized for excellence.”
He expressed pride in the progress Arthur Jarvis University has made in this endeavor and affirmed their commitment to support the institution.
Earlier, Sir Joe Edet, the Vice Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University, described the induction into the professional body of Medical Laboratory Scientists as a significant marker of the graduates’ readiness to assume important roles.
“This signifies your entry into a profession that requires not just scientific knowledge but also integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to excellence,” he stated.
“Today is a historic moment for our institution as we celebrate the graduation and formal induction of our first cohort of Medical Laboratory students into the professional community. This event is not just a ceremony; it represents years of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to a discipline that is essential to modern healthcare.”
