Mixed reactions greet APC state congresses in Kano

MIXED reaction continue to trail the two state congresses of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) held in Kano State, as a member of the caretaker committee of the APC, Ismal’il Ahmad said the party is yet to recognise any candidate as the legitimate chairman in Kano State.

The state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had said that the national headquarters of the party had recognised the state congress held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, which produced Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas. 

However, a former state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, disclosed that his group which produced Alhaji Haruna Danzago, has submitted names of its elected chairman, Haruna Danzago, and other members elected to the national headquarters of the party and was awaiting a response.

Ahmad who doubles as the national youth leader of the party while speaking on local radio on  Wednesday in an interview in Kano, monitored by Tribune Online said the party headquarters is yet to make a statement on the congresses election held in Kano. 

According to him,  the party headquarters will deliberate on the matter before making its decision.

He noted that the representatives of the party sent from Abuja to monitor the congresses are yet to submit their report.

It will be recalled that two factional leaders emerged from the October 16 state

On Wednesday, before the State Executive Council meeting, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje claimed that the national headquarters of the APC has recognised his anointed candidate, Abdullahi Abbas as chairman of the party.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar.

Also, the senator representing Kano Central, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau had said that the candidate of his faction, Ahmadu Haruna Danzago is the elected chairman of the party in the state. Shekarau stated this at an empowerment program in the state on Tuesday.
