Eyes witness accounts told The Tribune Online that the incident which happened at the corridor of the Ministry of Health portion of the Secretariat in the early hours of yesterday was however put by the in-house security personnel of the Secretariat.
According to one of the private security personnel who did not want his name in print, “we cannot call it a fire outbreak because we put it out ourselves immediately”.
“The fire in question emanated from the corridor of the building where some disused materials were packed, when we noticed it, we quickly moved in, the fire brigade personnel or the police were not even invited because it was minor.”
The Police personnel manning the Secretariat and the sweepers as well as vendors sighted at the vicinity when approached by the Tribune Online also corroborated the accounts given by the private security personnel about the incident.
An Inspector of Police told our Correspondent in confidence that the incident was blown out of proportion by the social media.
According to him, “It was a minor incident, even some of us here were not aware of the matter not until people started coming to make inquiries about it.”
In a swift reaction to the incident, Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole said that it was not a fire outbreak as reported but a mere electrical spark at the corridors of the Third floors of the building of the Ministry.
Prof Adewole stated that it had been put out and that there was nothing affected.
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
