Ministry of transport inaugurates committee for HIV/AIDS in aviation

Determined to curb the spread of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the Nigerian aviation industry, Ministry of Transport has inaugurated a Ministerial HIV/AIDS Local Committee in relevant agencies in the sector.

The ministry said the inauguration of the committee would enable a comprehensive social intervention approach to the fight for better productivity and collaboration with stakeholders to mitigate the effect of the virus in the sector.

According to the Social Behavioural Change Communicator in the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr Joe Jimoh, the recent statistics about prevalence of HIV/AIDS had shown that the transportation sector was one of the vulnerable industries to the virus in the country.
