THE Federal Ministry of Transportation has intensified efforts to reduce road crashes in the country as it has engaged stakeholders in awareness and sensitisation campaign on safety measures.
Speaking at a conference organised by the Department of Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration with the theme Road Mobility Safety in Nigeria, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Sabiu Zakari, said the conference was expected to evaluate the use of the country’s roads.
Zakari said the conference was designed to offer a valuable platform for stakeholders to contribute to the discourse on road mobility safety in Nigeria.

He said the discussion centered on areas such as the nexus between No-motorised transportation and clean mobility in ensuring road safety for engendering pro-people road transportation with implication for health and post- crash management.
According to him, the current administration is poised to address most of the road mobility safety challenges facing Nigeria in order to save lives and maintain sanity in the road sub-sector.
“It is also in the Economic Recovery Growth Programme (ERGP) of the government to engage more with stakeholders to enable the administration to focus on linking all the modes of transport to one another for easy means of transportation,” he said.
Zakari said the conference would draw the attention of road users and stakeholders in the transport industry to the emerging trends in transport safety and generate tangible ideas for Nigeria as well as make recommendation to the government for oneward implementation”.
Director of the Department of Road Transportation and Mass Transit Administration, Dr. Anthonia Ekpa, in her address, said gathering stakeholders together was aimed at promoting synergy among road users.
She expressed confidence that the conference would proffer solution that would benefit the country’s transport industry in the near future.
Stakeholders at the gathering were drawn from the private sector and the state and federal government transport institutions.
