Ministry harps on emerging technologies to grow businesses

Ministry of Communications says it will strengthen collaboration with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) toward utilizing innovative technologies to grow businesses in the country.

Ms Ann-Melody Oluwakemi, the Special Assistant, New Media to the Minister for Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

She said it was important for MSMEs to leverage on emerging technologies to create new businesses and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Oluwakemi noted that the Federal Government was committed to providing enabling environment for businesses to thrive, stressing that “there are lots of ideas ICT can offer for business growth.

“Government is providing an enabling environment for global businesses to thrive and moving forward, and we are looking at working with MSMEs, which is under the Office of the Vice President.

“We are planning a glocalization event from the Office of the Vice President and grow from there.

“Glocalisation is the combination of globalization and localization to describe a product or service that is developed .”

She commended the level of participation at the first edition of Glocalisation and Branding Summit held in Abuja on March 21 with the theme “Accessing Global Markets Using Local Creativity and Personal Branding’’.

She noted that the theme of the summit was apt, as it focused on the need to intensify efforts toward creating brands and services that could compete globally.

She said “we intend to have a bigger summit in Lagos.
