Ministerial nomination: Embrace Tunji-Ojo as minister from Ondo, group urges political leaders

A political pressure group under the aegis of Ondo Future Leaders Group (OFLG) has advised politicians from the state, to embrace the nomination of Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo as the nominee from the state rather than rejecting him.

The OFLG specifically called on all the stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to close ranks and rally around the ministerial nominee to help him succeed in his assignment.

The group however, expressed disappointment over the action of some leaders of the APC in the state, complaining over the lone Ministerial nomination of Tunji-Ojo from the state, saying his appointment will help to unite and galvanise the party in the state.

The group in a statement issued in Akure the state capital, on Sunday and signed by its national coordinator, Ayoola Balogun, said there is no need for another nomination because such will only cause further division within the party in the state.

He berated some leaders of the party in the state who have been clamouring for another ministerial slot for the state, saying they are only sowing seeds of discord within the party and the state.

Balogun said that rather than seeking another ministerial slot which seems unrealisable for now, the leaders should be thankful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for identifying a vibrant young man who has made the entire Ondo State proud.

He said “this is the time to support Tunji-Ojo who has been a very close person to the chief of staff and the President himself.

“We in Ondo State especially our leaders in the APC should thank the President and rally around Tunji-Ojo so that the state can have a solid grade one Ministry and even a full minister.

“But it is regrettable that the so-called leaders are running around to pull the young ministerial hopeful down by selling all manner of lies to the public.”

He said further, “Again, we are okay with one minister who we must pray to head a grade one Ministry as a full minister and not a minister of state that has always been given to Ondo State.

“We must allow the young ones to lead the party because the old generation has failed us as a people.

“But if the President appoints another minister, there will be a power struggle and the two ministers will divide the party by trying to woo supporters to themselves.

“But as it is now, we are all coming together under a youthful leader who will lead us to the 2024 governorship and deliver the state to APC and Jagaban ahead of 2027.

“We are therefore appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to consider the demands of the old political class in the party in the state, but should stick to only Tunji-Ojo as his minister from the state.
