Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has described the appointment of Senator David Nweze Umahi as by President Tinubu’s as a choice to win support from the Southeast region of Nigeria.

According to Ohanaeze, the appointment is a strategic move to inject Igbo ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit into President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Ohanaeze disclosed this in a statement signed by its Secretary General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, on Thursday shortly after the name of Umahi was announced as a ministerial nominee.

Ohanaeze who noted that Umahi has done well in infrastructure as a Governor urged President Tinubu, said “There are hopes that if given the Ministry of Works, Umahi will bring about transformative changes to Nigeria, similar to what he achieved during his tenure as the Governor of Ebonyi State”.

Isiguzoro however noted that the appointment of Umahi is believed to have eliminated any opposition from the Southeast, as he is expected to serve as President Tinubu’s emissary in the region.

The statement reads “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has congratulated Senator Dave Nweze Umahi on this achievement. We viewed it as evidence that President Tinubu values obedience, loyalty, hard work, and dedication to party supremacy. Umahi’s obedience in withdrawing from the Senate Presidency contest, as advised by the President, is recognized and appreciated by the President Tinubu and Ndigbo.

“The appointment of Umahi is believed to have eliminated any opposition from the Southeast, as he is expected to serve as President Tinubu’s emissary in the region. There are hopes that if given the Ministry of Works, Umahi will bring about transformative changes to Nigeria, similar to what he achieved during his tenure as the Governor of Ebonyi State.

Ndigbo has expressed optimism and support for Senator Dave Umahi’s appointment by President Tinubu, ” Umahi’s appointment has revived confidence amongst the Igbo to trust President Tinubu’s administration”. Ndigbo believed that Umahi’s experience and humility will enable him to address the challenges faced by the people of the Southeast region and draw President Tinubu’s attention to their needs.

“Ndigbo are optimistic that Umahi’s track records of infrastructural development in Ebonyi State during his tenure as Governor will be replicated on a national scale if he is given the Ministry of Works or Transport. Ndigbo emphasize the importance of deploying Umahi’s wealth of experience to address the infrastructural decay in Nigeria. Additionally, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has extended her congratulatory messages to other appointed ministers from the Southeast, and urge them to be good ambassadors of the Southeast”.
