Ministerial list: Ebonyi council boss berates youth group kicking against Umahi’s nomination

The Executive Council Chairman of Edda local government area of Ebonyi State, Prince Ekuma Chima has berated the youth organisation ‘Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front’ for kicking against the appointment of the former governor, Sen. David Umahi as the Minister designate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The council boss stated this after the youth organization called on President Ahmed Tinubu to withdraw the ministerial appointment given to Senator David Umahi and replace him with another prominent son of Umuekumenyi.

According to the youth organisation, the ministerial appointment given to Umahi by President Tinubu is a threat to peace, unity and justice in the state, insisting that it is the turn of Umuekumenyi to produce a minister and not Ebonyi South that has been holding the position for over twelve years.

But, the chairman, however, described the youths as jobless youths that want to destabilise the relative peace, unity and progress existing between the three senatorial zones of the state.

He said: “We don’t want these few jobless youths, who are under something, because I strongly believe that Umuekumenyi can’t oppose the former governor, Senator David Umahi’s appointment as minister.

“Few people who maybe, are the haters of Umahi have decided to come in the disguise of ‘Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front’ with this kind of movement to oppose him (Umahi). I don’t actually believe that they are from Umuekumenyi. Before now, we don’t base appointments on whether you are from Ebonyi North, Central or South senatorial zone. The position we rotate is governorship position and not on Ministerial appointments,” he stated.

Chima also lauded the cordial relationship existing between the state governor, Francis Nwifuru and Senator David Umahi, and advised the youths to desist from any act capable of breaching peace and unity in the state.

He further extolled Governor Nwifuru, for relating cordially with the chairmen of the thirteen (13) local government areas, increasing salaries of civil servants and promoting peace and order in the various communities of the state, that are rocked by communal clashes.

He, however, thanked the governor, Francis Nwifuru for giving staff of office to four (4) traditional rulers and demonstrating readiness to construct 2-kilometer roads and building of duplexes for all the traditional rulers in the state.
