Minister of Communication, Shittu, Tinubu-Ojo, differ on calls for restructuring

Published by

MINISTER of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu and daughter of former governor of Lagos state, Senator Bola Tinubu, who is Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Chief Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, over the weekend disagreed on the raging controversy on the need or otherwise to restructure the country.

Shittu contended that the timing of the demand for restructuring was wrong, but Tinubu-Ojo maintained that the only way out of the myriads of agitations facing President Muhammadu Buhari’ government is to allow urgent restructuring of the nation.

The duo spoke in Iwo, Osun state, on the sidelines of the 50th birthday ceremony of Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi during the weekend.

Shittu raised the suspicion that proponent of restructuring did not advance calls to restructure the country in the previous 16 years of Peoples Democratic Party’s, (PDP) reign.

He, however, suggested the strengthening of local governments to truly serve the rural dwellers, whom he said are often neglected by the two other tiers of government.

According to Shittu, “when local government is given autonomy, most to the agitations by those calling for a restructuring of the country would have been substantially addressed.

But, Tinubu-Ojo argued that the country should be restructured for effective governance to be possible, observing that the country as structured presently gives room for ineffective resources management.

Speaking to newsmen at the event, Oba Akanbi assured his subjects to continue working towards making life more bearable for them.

The event was attended by Osun state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, Etsu Nupe, Dr Abubakar Yahaya, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Mrs Abba Folawiyo to mention but few.
