Minister charges FCT education authorities on public schools

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello

DAYS after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) commissioned the Nigeria-Korea Model School in Piwoyi, Abuja, the administration has, again, taken delivery of a new block of two classrooms, donated by the Chinese Government, to expand the capacity of the China Assisted Model Primary School in Nyanya.

While commissioning the block of classrooms, the FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, expressed satisfaction with the school’s ambience, cleanliness, as well as the pupils’  performance.

The minister, who lamented the condition of some of the schools in FCT, said there was the need to change the face public primary schools in the same manner in order to promote quality teaching and learning.

He consequently directed the FCT Education Secretariat as well as the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) authorities to study the plan of the school with a view to replicating same in the entire territory.

He said: “I am impressed with the school environment. The environment is very clean and with the performance of the pupils, I can infer that the teachers are doing their work very well. We must aim to replicate the good ambience in all the schools in the Federal Capital Territory. We must also aim to sustain the professionalism I have seen here today.”

Speaking further, Malam Bello described the relationship between Nigeria and China as very deep and close, adding that the presence of the China Assisted Model Primary School further reinforced the cordial relationship between Nigeria and China.

Harping on the importance of education, the minister described education as an engine for national growth. According to him, “Education is the only tool with which a son of a peasant can become a president and the child of a farmer, in an area that boasts of no hospital, can become a medical doctor.”

In his remarks, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian, expressed the willingness of the Government of China to continue to support educational programmes in FCT in particular and Nigeria in general.

The Ambassador commended the commitment of the minister of FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, to deliver quality education to FCT residents.

“Bequeathing quality education to residents of the Federal Capital Territory has continued to be priority of the FCT Minister. We must commend the minister for this rare feat,” he stated.
